It's important we follow some simple guidelines when using our pools for summer fun. Each and every year adults and children alike can be injured by forgetting to follow simple safety rules.

Here are a few to help remind you to stay safe and enjoy yourself:

Never dive or jump into a pool, above ground or built in if you're uncertain of the depth. And even if it's deep enough, refrain from awkward dives and horseplay. Remember, most pools are swimming pools not designed for dives and jumps.

Keep a watchful eye on small children, they often become fascinated with pools and are attracted to them without the ability to swim.

Stay out of the pool during rain storms and when the weather changes quickly, lightning strikes are often drawn to sources of water like pools.

Safeguard all of your pool chemicals. This is very important. Chlorine tablets, liquid and algaecides are very poisonous. Make sure the chemicals are locked away when not being added to the pool. Curious children can mistake tablets for candy and liquids for soft drinks. Don't forget our pets as well! Keep the number for poison control readily available.

Make sure your pool ladder is locked in the upright position when you are not at home, or your gate is secure around the in ground pool.

Be certain your filter is properly grounded as the law requires, improper wiring or electrical cords can cause someone to suffer an electrical shock, which can often be fatal.

Most of all, use common sense and good judgment. Pools are made for family fun and enjoyment, let's try to keep it that way. Have a great summer of pool fun.
