Changing the Text Size on Web pages

Visitors to Web sites often find reading difficult because the size of the text is either too small or too large to meet their needs. There is an easy way to change text size which works for most Web pages.

If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer (the most common browser in use today) find the word "View" near the top of the screen. Click once on "View" and slide the mouse down until the arrow points to "Text Size". Slide the mouse over and choose whether you would like the text to be made larger or smaller.

If you use Netscape Navigator, the process is similar, but after you click on "View" choose "Text Zoom", and if you use the Opera browser, choose "Zoom" under the View menu.

Often, those who design Websites specify text sizes in ways that do not allow resizing through the View menu in Microsoft Internet Explorer. You can override this through the "Tools" Menu.

Click once on the word "Tools" near the top of the screen. Choose "Internet Options" from the list and a small window will open. Find "Accessibility" near the bottom of the window and click once to open the Accessibility window. Click on the check box entitled "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages". Click on "OK" and the Accessibility window will close. Click on "OK" to close the Internet Options window and you should now be able to change the text size by using the View menu as described in the above section.
