First Night
Started as an alternative to the traditional booze-soaked New Year's Eve party, First Night is an alcohol-free celebration of the arts held on New Year's Eve in communities throughout the world.
First Night events are held in a variety of venues in each city and can include music, dance, poetry, storytelling, acting, puppet shows, film, sculpture and other arts. First Night buttons are sold in each participating city or town and are good for admission to all events.
The original First Night celebration was held in Boston in 1976. Boston's First Night is a massive affair, with fireworks, a grand procession and 250 exhibits and performances ranging from swing dancing to glittering ice sculptures.
