Classic Fudge
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 1-ounce squares unsweetened baking chocolate
- 1 teaspoon corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Dash salt
- Extra butter for coating
Instructions
- Butter sides of 2-quart saucepan.
- Add sugar, milk, chocolate, corn syrup and salt.
- Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to boil a bit.
- Turn down heat a little and cook to soft ball stage.
- Remove the pan from stove and add butter. Do not stir.
- Let pan sit undisturbed until the bottom of pan is warm (as opposed to hot). Add vanilla.
- Butter a cookie sheet.
- Stir the fudge just to the point where it becomes thicker, lighter in color, and begins to lose its gloss.
- Pour immediately onto the cookie sheet.
- Cut into 1-inch cubes with sharp knife while still warm.
