Mashed Turnips


This is a traditional New England method of preparing turnip and is often served as a side dish with holiday turkey dinners.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium turnips
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel turnips and cut into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Place in large pot and add water to cover. Cook for 1 - 1 1/2 hours or until tender.
  3. Drain and then mash turnips with a potato masher. Stir in butter, salt and pepper.
Makes 8 servings
