Thelma's Thanksgiving

Thelma's neighbor asked her how many people she was having over for Thanksgiving dinner.

"We're having a small gathering, all family," Thelma replied.

When asked who was attending, Thelma answered, "The party will consist of 1 grandfather, 1 grandmother, 2 fathers, 2 mothers, 4 children, 3 grandchildren, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 2 sons, 2 daughters, 1 father-in-law, 1 mother-in-law, and 1 daughter-in-law."

"Why that's not a small party at all!" exclaimed the neighbor. "There will be 23 people there."

"No," said Thelma, "including myself, only 7 people will be present."

How can this be?
